'The other one'

Oil on canvas
61 x 81 cm

About my painted portraits I have said: Every portrait is a self-portrait. Not literally on the outside, but they all are separate parts of my character. To be more specific; a magnified version of a piece of my character. Just like an actor digs up something out of the dark corners of his own personality to play a convincing role.

Maybe the meaning of the landscapes is not very different. In fact the trees are performing a role or character too. In this case the hiding tree is curious towards the flaunting one in the sunlight, but too withdrawn to join in.

Fun fact

After living in Maitland for a couple of months, I suddenly realized that a ‘detail’ of a painting I made a few years ago … was life sized visible, right around the corner of my house. Do you see it too?
