This painting is loosely inspired by the unfinished Foreshore Freeway Bridge in South Africa.
This flyover in the busy center of Cape Town has been in this unfinished state for almost 50 years. All kinds of speculations are being made, but there is no clear reason why construction has stopped.
I cut the subject out of its actual location and placed it in a new landscape. This immediately creates a ‘visible conversation’ between this unfinished flyover and the trees, like it is trespassing their surroundings.
